Preserving a legacy...

In the heart of West Chester stands a 19th century neoclassical bank. It was a pillar of Pennsylvanian ambition for over 150 years, but its vaults eventually closed and the building laid still, yearning for a return to glory. That revival began in 2023 when owner John O’Connell transformed the First National Bank building into 9 Prime, the state’s grandest steakhouse, and Johnny O’s, its premier speakeasy.

Meet the Chef

Jacob Altemus, Executive Chef

Jacob Altemus is the Executive Chef at 9 Prime. Altemus has 15 years of experience working in the hospitality space specializing in upscale high volume operations, farm-to-table restaurants and opening new restaurants. He most recently came from Urban Farmer where he oversaw operations for Urban Farmer Philadelphia, The Logan Hotel, and Assembly Rooftop Lounge simultaneously.

Altemus has background working alongside Michelin star and James Beard Award winning chefs and has prepared several large dinners, most notably, the March of Dimes Signature Chef’s Auction, United States Air Force Dinner, Flavors by American Liver Foundation and the Foo Fighters party at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has cooked for celebrities including Sylvester Stallone, LeBron James, and nearly a score of MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL teams and their leadership. He has also cooked for multiple musicians including Jennifer Lopez, SZA, 2 Chainz, Megan Thee Stallion, and Ashanti just to name a handful.

Altemus lives in the area and has a daughter who he loves to cook with. When he’s not working or cooking at home, he enjoys staying active, spending time outdoors and has a rich passion for art.
